Metalbending is awesome. (This observation inspired by the Legend of Korra episode And the Winner Is…) I never saw the original Avatar show. I think I need to remedy this.

Yes, you do need to remedy this. Avatar is an amazing AMAZING show. Stories of Bah Sing Sei is some truly superior writing.

I have not yet partaken of the original Avatar season 3 – but I loved the first two seasons. (Especially the 2nd Season episode “Tales of Ba Sing Se” which brought literal – as in actual and for real – tears to my eyes.) I have it queued up on Netflix… but I kind of want to refresh myself on seasons 1 & 2 before diving into 3. And right now my TV-watching time is basically nonexistent.
But if you have the time to watch it, I highly highly recommend it.

Oh my, yes–watch Avatar: The Last Airbender. You can watch the whole run on Netflix Watch Instant. The world-building in the show is outstanding. I love its mix of action, adventure, and humor.

Second everyone else’s opinion—Avatar is awesome and totally worth watching. Plus, episodes are short, so you’re not committing yourself to a major endeavor. Give it a try and I guarantee you’ll get hooked. It’s a truly great show with top-notch writing. I can’t wait until my kid is old enough to watch so I’ll have an excuse to watch it again.

“Iroh’s Story” always makes me cry so hard. The whole of season two is really well done. I’m also still working my way through season three, but it’s been fantastic so far.

hi i avatar is way cool. i got a chance to meet mr hines at penguin con it was the coolest thing that ever happened to me. i did not reialze who he was till he started reading from the new Libriomancer book and then he said smuges name. i guess i was not the only one to notice cause mr hines stoped and said “oh i can tell how has read the goblin books” it was so cool to actualy meet the creator of series i read when i read a book and realy like it the charetercs become freinds and jig is one of my faves.

That’s a fabulous show. Great story-telling, beautiful scenery, and each of the four main characters grows and develops realistically. Numerous strong female characters. Humor – many styles of humor – and suspense, and poignancy, and surprises. Great writing. Such attention to detail. Each of the bending styles is modeled after a different martial art! The four-episode conclusion is jaw-droppingly satisfying, too. I hope you’ll love it as much as I did. I’ve got the whole series on DVD, and I’ve seen all the episodes multiple times.

Or to be more specific: I was drawn to the art, then when I saw that each episode was contributing to a tightly crafted story, I was hooked. And then when I discovered that the heart of the story was its moral complexity, I was completely won over.
