Thursday Miscellany
This has been a pretty intense week for my little corner of the blogosphere. I was tempted to find another argument to stir up today, but I think I’ve had about all I can process right now. People have given me a lot to think about, thank you. I’ll be doing a follow-up on the whole piracy thing, in part to address aspects of the problem which I hadn’t really considered until they were pointed out to me.
For the moment though, have some random and light tidbits.
1. I’ll be at ConFusion this weekend, and I’ve got a pretty busy schedule. The program book is here. I’ll be reading from The Snow Queen’s Shadow [Amazon | B&N | Mysterious Galaxy] on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in the Board Room, for anyone who’s interested.
2. Speaking of Snow Queen, I’ve been playing around and made a few LJ icons. Please help yourself, if you’re interested. (Credit mentioning me or the book is always appreciated.) Snow and Talia both get quotes from the books, but I think the “Mother issues” one is my favorite.
3. I haven’t posted anything LEGO in a while. Time to remedy that. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, an evil empire wanted ice cream. The All-Terrain Ice Cream Transport was created by Louis K, and it makes me happy. Click the pic for more, including a close-up of Vader with an ice cream cone.
All that’s left is for a John Williams score to start playing in that ring-a-ding ice cream truck style…

Love the icons! I read all of the Princess books, and I just finished Jig’s books. As a long-time gamer, and avid fan of kobolds (the only bumper sticker on my car reads “I Brake for Kobolds”), I really enjoyed the Goblin books. Did you ever make any Jig-related LJ icons?
Thanks, Jim, for your well-crafted stories and interesting blog posts!

Hi Teresa!
Thanks! And yes, there are some goblin LJ icons, as well as some other princess ones. Check http://www.livejournal.com/allpics.bml?user=jimhines and help yourself!
Don’t know about kobolds, though … I’m still a bit scarred from a nasty kobold fighter a friend of mine played in an RPG game years ago. Scree the kobold was good at two things: slicing you up with his magic short swords, and vomiting.
Yeah, I have odd friends…

Thanks! Wow…So many icons to love… 🙂
I only ever got to play a kobold once…But I enjoyed the character so much I actually commissioned a character portrait for him. (The picture is still at the artist’s gallery here: http://www.elfwood.com/~spalthoff/Drellicus.3242121.html ) The game was short-lived, and I’ve always hoped to return to that character. Jig’s stories reminded me how much fun it is to play the underdog.
(Oh, and the Shrek reference in Goblin War “The Universe has layers” Jig:”Like Ogres?” had me jumping for joy.)

Nifty portrait! Your kobold looks to be a much more serious character than Scree was 🙂
And thanks! What can I say, I’ve got ogre issues.

Thanks for that link. Very enlightening. If it came to an epic fight between your princesses and Shrek & Co. …well, I’d put my money on Talia, Snow, and Danielle ANY day. 🙂

“You can’t protect us all.”
“Watch me.”
Those two statements, could make almost any character awesome –specifically the one committing to the defense of the others. I could see any of the princesses making such a declaration, but Talia most of all, of course. Such power in simplicity.
If only Anakin could have shown a shred of awesomeness.
