Candygate, in a Nutshell
So this happened…
(Also, this is my first time at trying to embed Tweets in a blog post, so I apologize in advance if it breaks something.)
I may get flamed for this, but it has to be said. Blue M&Ms are unnatural and wrong. They’re an abomination of candydom.
— Jim C. Hines (@jimchines) November 24, 2014
@jimchines But they were voted on and everything!
— Queer Dalek (@Queer_Dalek) November 24, 2014
@Queer_Dalek I blame the gerrymandering of Candyland.
— Jim C. Hines (@jimchines) November 24, 2014
@jimchines YOU MONSTER I AM NEVER READING YOUR BOOKS EVER OMG DEAL BREAKER
— Amal El-Mohtar (@tithenai) November 24, 2014
@jimchines But what’s your stand on CIRCUS PEANUTS, Jim? That’s the real question here. #candygate #candyghazi @tithenai
— Natalie Luhrs (@eilatan) November 24, 2014
.@eilatan @tithenai I’m kind of loving that it took a mere seven minutes to coin a #candygate hashtag.
— Jim C. Hines (@jimchines) November 24, 2014
@jimchines @eilatan This is the world we live in. A world with a sad, gaping lack of ethics in candy-colour journalism.
— Amal El-Mohtar (@tithenai) November 24, 2014
@tithenai @jimchines @eilatan I will now proclaim that both sides of #candygate are full of extremists and assert my moral superiority.
— Elder Wombat UrsulaV (@UrsulaV) November 24, 2014
@UrsulaV @tithenai @jimchines And I will now throw circus peanuts at you, thereby proving that I have the ethics of a 3 year old. #Candygate
— Natalie Luhrs (@eilatan) November 24, 2014
@eilatan @tithenai @jimchines See!? See? Even a neutral statement on #candygate leads to assault by circus peanut! O unhappy world!
— Elder Wombat UrsulaV (@UrsulaV) November 24, 2014
@UrsulaV @eilatan @tithenai Why is the media not focusing on the harassment and attacks by anticandygaters?
— Jim C. Hines (@jimchines) November 24, 2014
@jimchines @eilatan @tithenai Media’s run by CJWs.
— Elder Wombat UrsulaV (@UrsulaV) November 24, 2014
@ursulav @jimchines @eilatan @tithenai You are ALL WRONG. It’s not to do with M&M color at all. That’s a diversion from the REAL ISSUE
— evilrooster (@evilrooster) November 24, 2014
@ursulav @jimchines @eilatan @tithenai …which is cocoa content. Yes, it’s about what bars are richer than other bars.
— evilrooster (@evilrooster) November 24, 2014
Wait, @jimchines, does posting positive things about blue M&M’s mean your FOR #candygate or against candygate?
— Queer Dalek (@Queer_Dalek) November 24, 2014
@Queer_Dalek @jimchines it’s impossible to tell. He could just be a troll trying to make CandyGaters look bad.
— Jim Avery (@TheSoundDefense) November 24, 2014
@tinytempest @eilatan @jimchines @evilrooster @UrsulaV @tithenai I’m going to play Confectioner’s Advocate for a minute here…

“And I will now throw circus peanuts at you, thereby proving that I have the ethics of a 3 year old.” Is my new favorite quote.

There is no denying that blue food is controversial. You were a brave man to touch the subject.

I still miss the tan M&M’s.
PS- Circus Peanuts are evil.

Excellent mocking of hysteria and polarization.

I’m just surprised that Mars, Inc. guys did not come sea lioning into the thread.
By the way, Chrome on Win 7 on my PC is breaking your blog page by bleeding the tweets into the next articles. I have screenshots for you here. http://i.imgur.com/LIZyQuy.png And when I click on the post title, the tweets are losing formatting and showing up as italicised paragraphs.

I’m seeing the same thing on the blog page (I won’t bother screenshotting; Siddhartha’s look like what I see), running Firefox on Ubuntu (both slightly elderly: FF 20.0/Ubuntu 10.04). The tweets are showing up fine when I click on the post, though – they’re only italicized paragraphs while the page is loading; once it has, they’re properly formatted and (heh) fully functional.

Unless you’re Percy Jackson or his mom. They love blue food. 😉

Well that’s annoying. Not sure exactly why it’s happening, but my guess is that if I move the “MORE” cut so it’s before any of the Tweets, that should hopefully fix it on the Blog page. Fingers crossed…

Yes, it did the job for me. Now the blog page looks fine and the tweets on the post itself look good as well.

A bit late coming back to this, but, yes, that fixed it for me, too!
