First LOL Book in Two Years!
The last time I did a LOL Book was April of 2010. But then I was browsing through some of Vonda McIntyre’ old blog posts at Book View Cafe, came across this cover, and was inspired…
This is from the German edition of one of Lois McMaster Bujold’s Miles Vorkosigan books.

It’s a shame that Bujold’s Vorkosigan books have such horrid covers as they’re simply superb.

When this edition of “Der Kadett” was released in Germany in 1999, I was working in a bookstore. And when I opened the box and put this book onto the shelf, I was absolutely sure that it would become a shelf hugger. But I didn’t want to judge the novel by outward impressions, so I starting reading it (and took it home after work to finish it the very same night 🙂 ). In the next couple of days, many of my sales conversations started like this: “Please ignore this book’s cover, the story is actually really funny and gripping.”

I’m assuming this is the cover for Warrior’s Apprentice? Poor Lois! Oh, my. I can’t think of any tiny part of the book that illustration represents. Even the Cover for A Civil Campaign is better than this.
Yes, this and all the Vorkosigan books are very, very good. Captain Vorpatril’s Alliance (Ivan–his Booke) is due out November 6. Can’t wait!
