Yes, No, or Gazebo
In addition to me doing more around the house while my wife recovers, we’re also getting ready for vacation next week, and of course I’m prepping some things for the release of Red Hood. (Yes, when my book comes out, I will be up north where I’ll have little Internet access, and where there’s only one tiny microbookstore within 50 miles. Yes, this will make me approximately 73% crazier than usual.)
Anyway, this is my long-winded way of saying life has doled out an extra dose of busy lately, so rather than a long, thoughtful blog post, I’m just gonna play today.
Your role, should you choose to accept it, is to ask a yes/no question. Any question.
I shall answer it. I will do my best to answer all questions, but if it’s something I consider too personal or too spoilery (or if I just don’t know), then your answer may be a bit more random…

Aw.
So in reading over your post I thought it said Robin Hood, and it took me a solid minute of scratching my head going, “He doesn’t have a Robin Hood book in the pipes, does he? What?” till I saw I had misread. Duh. 🙂
Do you like brussel sprouts? (I have a sprout craving. First thing that came to mind.)

Did you wake up one day and decide “I’m going to be a writer today?”

Yes.
Surprisingly, that’s kind of how it happened. A friend of mine had been writing some fantasy stories, and it looked like fun, so I said, “I think I’ll do that!”

Nope.
(A friend of mine did the Robin Hood novelization for the latest movie, if that counts?)

No. Gazebos are over-rated. Go with a simple pergola instead. You’ll save money and have a nice shady spot to sit and write.

Send your wife my get-well-soon wishes.
I’m going to order Red Hood’s Revenge online this year instead of having a family member pick it up for me. This way, I’ll be able to read it BEFORE you come out with the next book. 🙂
Anyways….
Have you considered writing about cuttlefish? I find a surprising lack of cuttlefish in my reading material.

Thanks. And no, I hadn’t considered that … but as it happens, I’m in the middle of writing an ocean-based scene today 🙂

Up north isn’t that bad … unless you mean Canada … If I could move to the Iron Mountain area I would be in heave.

Scene under the ocean? Hmmm, would that be related to the recent events under our Gulf waters?

Northern part of Michigan’s upper penninsula. My in-laws have a camp up there that we all go to for a week or so each summer.

Nope. I’d have a hard time tying the princess books into current events like that, though I’m sure it could be done.

Do you have any brand new series in the works for when your done with the last princess book

Do you like ham?
+Kudos if you get the reference.

I can take it or leave it.
No kudos for me, I’m afraid. What’s the reference?

A fantasy machinima (think episodes made with video games) series called Medieval Weapon. It’s a spoof of Lethal Weapon and EverQuest 2. Instead of Murtaugh and Riggs, it’s Hurtaugh and Tiggs. If you get time and need a laugh, it could be worth watching. 🙂
But Ham is goooood 😀

Do you listen to music while you write, or is writing more of a quiet activity for you?

What is your favorite thing to do when not writing?
Jim C. Hines
June 30, 2010 @ 6:49 pm
Nope. I write during my lunch break at work, so my coworkers would probably complain. I suppose I could bring in a radio and headphones, but I’ve never bothered.

Gazebo!
Really, it’s hard to say. Playing with the kids is up there. Relaxing with my wife. Spreading random mayhem and chaos, that sort of thing…

Do your workmates know that you are a (fantastic!) published author? I was also curious about what their reactions were if they did, but that isn’t a yes/no answer! Oh, and if they do know, have you ever had them go a little fan-girly at you?

Yes, and a little bit yes 🙂
They think it’s pretty cool, and I’ve been very fortunate in that my manager supports the writing. As long as I’m not writing during my work hours, she’s great with me writing during lunch. Several of them regularly come to my booksignings, which is fun.

She is an incredibly prolific reviewer, and for a long time was the #1 reviewer at Amazon, until they changed their ranking system. She reads and reviews multiple books per day.
Trouble is, she reads and reviews so quickly she usually misses or misunderstands plot details, characters, etc.
