Responding to a Review
General rule: don’t respond to reviews. But then, every rule has an exception…
Joshua Palmatier recently posted a review of Mermaid’s Madness that pointed out what he felt was an error. “…at one point, Snow knocks someone down, but without any sign of recovery, the person is back up a few pages later.”
I haven’t gone back to double-check this in my book, and I don’t intend to. The book is in print, and it’s not like I can recall and change the copies even if he’s right.
Instead, I’ve written a note for my own future reference:
When Snow knocks you down, you stay the @#$% down!

Wait…I thought that was Talia? Or does that pretty much go without saying?

“When Snow knocks you down, you stay the @#$% down!”
LOL!
The only time I ever did actually respond was to an online blog review in which the author accused me of having one of my main characters raped. He went on at length with considerable condemnation and vitriole (sp?) about something that never happened. I did leave him a polite note setting things straight. I got no response and last I knew the review remained unchanged. At least my response is still there.

It would have been even more appropriate for Talia, but I think it still works with Snow 🙂

I can see offering a factual correction, especially with such an egregious error. For minor mistakes, I probably wouldn’t bother, but something like this … that’s the kind of misinformation that can hurt.

If you ever do a line of Kick Ass Princess t-shirts, that needs to go on one.

So noted 🙂
Princess T-shirts would be sweet! Unfortunately, I don’t have the rights to use the original artwork; just the covers themselves. Still, one of these days I might see what I can come up with.
Though I suck about this stuff. I still haven’t even gotten the Neil Gaiman T-shirt posted! Bad Jim.
