Change of Plans
Originally, the plan was to mow the lawn, then try to get some more work done on the Red Hood’s Revenge rewrite before heading off to the RPG. The past two days have been quite productive from a writing standpoint: two more chapters finished, and I crossed the 70,000 word mark yesterday.
Plans change.
The glasses were four years old, so I guess I can’t complain too much. Wish me luck finding a decent pair that doesn’t break the budget.
Anyone know that Oculus Reparo spell from Harry Potter?

Yes, but use the less strenuous spell of Duct Tape (or some other kind of magically sticky webbing).
Good luck. I bought two pairs of glasses in the last year and I’m not really satisfied with either, but then I have weird eye issues that the general population doesn’t have (related to the day job).

Thanks! I’m apparently too blind for LensCrafter’s one hour guarantee, but hopefully I’ll have something by next week.
Sorry to hear about your own ongoing glasses troubles. I hate the whole glasses-buying process. They always take a while to get used to, and trying to pick out a pair when I can’t see anything is just ridiculous.

I have gotten my last few sets of glasses from 39 Dollar Glasses, and done pretty well. That is, no more problems than at a regular eyeglass store – and at a significantly lower price. GlassyEyes has a rundown of several different sellers on the internet, comparative prices, reviews, complaints, and so on.
What I usually recommend is getting a minimal-option “replacement” pair from a seller – just in case of something like this. If they’re good, then you have a new supplier. If they suck, then you’re not out a ton of money. They do try to upsell a lot, but even the prescription sunglasses options are rather inexpensive.

A backup pair is a good idea. Back when my prescription still changed enough I was getting a new pair every year or two, this wasn’t a problem. But at this point, the only backup pair I’ve got is 9 years old with a crack in one lens.

True – so order some now. 🙂
The reason I mentioned thinking of the glasses you order over the internet as “backups” – at least until you have experience with a retailer – is that way you’re not heavily invested in them. And if they’re decent glasses, then they can become your “normal” ones. 🙂
